We started in Vernon today, five of us walking with Cynthia Banas as a support person. We walked about 15 miles to Verona Beach State Park, and will walk to Cleveland tomorrow. A fairly uneventful day today. Everyone got through the walk well; no blisters. Hoping for a few people from the Utica area will join with us tomorrow. We are carrying the NYSMARCHESFOR PEACE banner and tomorrow we’ll be carrying the flags. Had a lot of horns in response to the Walk. There was an article in the “Oneida Gazette” with a story and a picture of us in the paper, and some of those we talked with had seen the article. About 12 miles into the Walk we stopped in a restaurant that had a “Support Our Troops” sign in their window. We had a good dialogue and a receptive receptive response from the restaurant and were give free refreshments.
The whole walk is an activist training — powerful conversations along the way with discussions about nonviolence and how things work. The Walk gives us time to reflect on all this as we walk.
It has gone well. — Jim Fulmer
