Today, Saturday, May 10, was another beautiful day. We walked through several orchard areas, joined by several teenagers and children younger than teens with lots of energy. Today was a day with lots of drumming and singing. We were about 25-30 through the day.
We made good time and reached Wolcott around 5 p.m. Our “hosts” greeted us holding many “peace” signs. They had us follow them around the town, marching along. “This is the most excitement this town has seen in years.”
We met in a Presbyterian church, and about 40 people for dinner. In the welcome to us, the minister said: “You are the peacemakers. You are welcome here.” Seemed to imply there was controversy within the community and that he took courage to welcome us.
During the evening speakers from IVAW and Military Families spoke.
Mary Adams came from Rochester and gave us foot massages. And took care of our blisters.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY: Around mid-afternoon, needing a break, we’re walking along and see up ahead a big artillery gun, standing in front of an American Legion hall. Frank, from Rochester, on the Walk, a vet himself, goes in and introduces himself to those inside the Legion Hall. Our MARCH is welcomed in, and here we are, having discussions, sitting at the bar of the American Legion. Flyers are handed out. Unbelieveable! They were ever so friendly to us. – Kathy Castania

It was a wonderful experience to be a part of Saturday’s march from Sodus to Wolcott.

Great thanks to the march organizers! It was so good to spend the day walking with your group from Sodus to Wolcott - amazing people, every one. The work you’re doing is so important - reminding people that the war continues to bring suffering to families here and in Iraq. I hope to join you for the first part of your walk tomorrow.
Peace,
Ruth

It was good to meet many others who share feeling of need to take action against the war.
It was fun, uplifting , exciting and healthy.
I hope many more people join in for the walk.
Kudos to the participating vets who are determined to have a voice. They lend a ligitimacy and solidity to the movement.
